Education & Outreach

Education

UCLA Racing offers a hands-on, project-based training curriculum for new members during the Fall quarter. Our educational program includes three courses:

  1. SAE CAD Course: Students learn Computer-Aided Design (CAD) through SolidWorks, beginning with fundamental concepts
  2. SAE Shop Training: Students learn Machining and Fabrication applications in the student machine shop. The course gives students the opportunity to practice making their own parts and teaches safe and proper operation of the following machines and hand tools:
    • Drills
    • Drill Presses
    • Bandsaws
    • Sanders
    • Lathes
    • Mills
    • Taps

Outreach

In 2011, Baja began a mentorship program with the FIRST Robotics team at Beverly Hills High School (FRC Team 1515) teaching design, machining, and project management skills. This year, the team expanded our program to include a second FIRST Team at High Tech Los Angeles Charter High School (FRC Team 4). It is our hope that the partnerships with these schools will help foster the growth of STEM education among younger students.

Our team is always seeking to establish connections and relationships throughout the community. If you are interested in partnering with UCLA Racing | Baja SAE, please contact outreach@uclaracing.org.
